The son said to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.” But the father said to his servants, “Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate” – (Luke 15:21-23 NIV)
The story of the lost son is one of the most beloved in the Scriptures. God is in the business of bringing families together. Every day parents are fighting over custody of their children. In many instances’ children must be forcibly taken from abusive situations or from parents who are addicted to drugs or alcohol. Other families are torn apart by strife, bitterness, and jealously.
Is your family whole, or are you longing for the day when every member will be present at the family reunion? Is there a son or daughter who seems to have dropped out of sight, as far as your family is concerned? Why not make a covenant with the Lord to pray each day for the next year for that family member to be reconciled? God is able to send His holy angels or human messengers along that person’s path with just the right words to turn his or her heart toward home. The Lord used an angel to bring Peter and Cornelius together, and He can do the same to bring your family together.
And don’t forget, every reunion means a celebration!
